By the richest side of the northern Peruvian sea, forgotten, small and low resources communities live. The Pacific Tropical Sea holds 70% percent of the marine biodiversity of Peru and is the main source of income for many artisanal fishers. Nevertheless, illegal fishing practices are affecting the fragile livelihood of these communities that completely depend on the health of the ocean. To make it more complex, this situation has led some artisanal fishers to extract vulnerable species, like mobulas, putting the sustainability of the area even more at risk.
On my photos I try to showcase the different people that rely on the ocean; and on the other side, the emptiness and lack when there isn't a good time. I will continue this project, as my way to get closer to the sea and the challenges that is facing.
